Gearboxes – Metal or Non-Metal?

When you’re looking at buying a gun there a several different factors to consider. We will be addressing one of the most important ones here, whether or not to purchase a gun with a metal or non-metal gearbox.

It is said that non-metal gearbox gun cannot perform as well as a metal gearbox gun. This is not true. What is true is that a non-metal gearbox gun may not last as long as a metal gearbox gun. I would recommend getting a non-metal gearbox gun as your first gun as it is important to establish your style of play first, and a non-metal gearbox gun will allow you to do just that. Not to be belittled, just because an airsoft gun has a non-metal gearbox does not mean it is not a good gun, as most of these items are made as such to be lighter weight than a gun that uses a full metal gearbox.

That being said statistically a metal gearbox will last longer than a non-metal gearbox. Metal gearbox guns also allow the gun to shoot at a higher FPS as the metal gearbox and handle a higher FPS longer than a non-metal gearbox can.

The metal gearbox guns also allow the gun to be upgraded easier than a non-metal gearbox. If you have already established your play style and are comfortable in it than I would recommend going with a metal gearbox gun as that will allow you to upgrade with a harder spring and a multitude of other improvements that will increase performance.
