If you’ve been playing airsoft for a while, you’ve likely played most – if not all – of these scenarios. If you’re new to the sport, you can use this information to change up what you’re doing. Either way, we think that you’ll enjoy any of these scenarios. Of you have any questions, contact us, or any of your airsofting friends.

1. Deathmatch

Deathmatch is one of the easiest event types to play. There are only two teams playing here with an even number of players on each team. The only objective when playing “Deathmatch” is to eliminate all members on the opposing force. Whoever has the last player standing is the winning team. If time limits apply, then the team with the most players standing at the end of time is victorious. Medic rules may be used, depending on those running the game.

2. Squad Deathmatch

The gameplay in Squad Deathmatch is much like standard Deathmatch. The main difference is that instead of it being only two teams, there will be three or more.

3. Free-For-All

Free-For-All is typically played with a small amount of players, either in a pickup game or during down time at a larger event. As a Free-For-All suggests, it’s played as every man for himself, and the last man standing wins. You’ll need to keep keenly aware of your situation, because while you’re taking aim on one opponent, another may have you in their crosshairs. There are generally no medics in a Free-For-All events and time limits may apply.

4. Capture the Flag

Capture the Flag is a scenario played with two teams. Each team has one or more flags at their base, which must be visible and unhidden. The objective is to capture all of the opposing teams flag’s and bring those flags back to your team’s base. Once the flag has been captured from enemy base, the opposing force can still shoot the one holding the flag. As soon as the flag holder has been taken out, one of two things will happen, depending on how rules are set for that particular event. If you’re playing “Live Flag,” then the player that was carrying the flag and has been taken out, that player must drop the flag where they were shot. Either a team mate or an opponent may pick up the flag at this point and take it to their respective base. If you’re playing with “Dead Flag” rules, if the flag carrier is hit, they must return the flag to the opponents’ base.

5. Escort

Escort, also known as President, is an airsoft scenario that is played with two teams. One team on offense, the other on defense.  For one team their objective is to escort a lightly armed or unarmed team member (President) to a specific location. It is the other team’s main objective to remove the President from play.  Though re-spawn and revival of the escorting team is generally allowed, it is not allowed for the President. Depending on the one rules of the specific event, time limits may apply.

6. King of the Hill

When playing King of the Hill, one squad has control of a hill or field with substantial cover. They will be protecting a flag on the hill from multiple squads. The squad that takes the flag wins and becomes King of the Hill. They must then defend the flag. If the game is played with a time limit, then the squad closest to the flag is declared the winner to become the new King of the Hill.

7. Fortress

In Fortress, approximately one fourth of players will barricade themselves in a fort, bunker or an area with a lot of cover (the Fortress). It is the other team’s mission to invade and eliminate all members in the fortress. The winning team will be the one with the last player standing. Generally, there are not any re-spawning in Fortress, though limited medic rules may apply.

8. Military Simulation

When playing Military Simulation (MilSim), the objectives are often based on real-life, military missions. Players are usually pre-briefed on what exactly they will be doing prior to the starting the game. Depending on the game, your objectives, updates, and changes may be radioed in. The event organizers in MilSim, more often than not, enforce strict camouflage patterns and push the use of MIL-SPEC gear and clothing. The idea is that the more realistic the event is, the better experience the players will have. If organized properly, a MilSim event is as close to the real thing as it gets.

9. Paratroopers

In a Paratroopers scenario a squad of players are taken to a “drop zone”, the players cannot be familiar with the surrounding area so they must blindfolded on their way to the DZ. There can be multiple drop zones for multiple squads which helps create more realistic game play, as they will have to rendezvous with each other. Each squad of Paratroopers will be given a map of the surrounding area with the objectives to complete, or objects (usually flags) to collect, and the location of the “pickup zone.” The opposing players will be split into equal teams to defend the objectives, and in some situations, give resistance on the way to the rendezvous point. Once the Paratroopers have completed the objectives and returned to the pickup zone, they have won.

10. Cops and Robbers

Cops and Robbers is usually a quick skirmish between two small teams. Usually, only airsoft handguns on semi-automatic settings are used. These are fun little skirmishes, which is easily organized, even between small groups of friends. These scenarios are often to held in close quarters, to keep gameplay moving, and minimalize the amount of time taken to play.
